The team behind notable Brooklyn Heights restaurant Colonie arrives in DUMBO with the opening of a new Mexican restaurant: Gran Electrica. Together, owners Tamer Hamawi, Elise Rosenberg, Emelie Kihlstrom, and Bradford McDonald (group executive chef and formerly of Noma and Per Se), along with chef Sam Richman (formerly of The Fat Duck and Jean Georges) offer an authentic and market-driven Mexican menu inspired by travels abroad, particularly traditional Mexican street fare. Creating their take on regionally-influenced Mexican cuisine, the menu will aim to showcase a diversity of dishes from across the country.
Chef Richman's emphasis on keeping Gran Electrica's menu rooted in authentic Mexican cooking and techniques is expressed through items like fresh hand-pressed tortillas crafted with heirloom corn, house-made crema and queso fresco, as well as spicy chorizo made on site. Savory tacos encompass Lengua, Pescado, and Guisado de Rajas y Acelgas, while Gorditas feature crunchy chicharrons. Traditional dishes include popular seafood staples like Cocteles and Aguachile, alongside Arroz a la Tumbada, Mole Verde Oaxaqueno, Pickled Pig's Feet, and Carne en su Jugo. The dessert menu stays true to form with traditional sweets such as sugary Churros, chewy Cocada and Cana. |
